What many Deacon fans believed to be true has now been confirmed, according to D1Baseball.com. Corey Muscara has been named the 2023 Assistant Coach of the Year by one of college baseball's biggest outlets.

Under Muscara's leadership, Wake Forest as a team led the nation in ERA (2.83), WHIP (1.05), H/9 (6.59), K/BB (4.26), and K/9 (12.1). Wake Forest was second in the nation in shutouts with ten and BB/9 innings (2.83).

Five pitchers out of Wake Forest were taken in the 2023 MLB First Year Player's Draft. These players were Rhett Lowder (Cincinnati: R1 P7), Sean Sullivan (Colorado: R2 P46), Seth Keener (Chicago W: R3 P84), Teddy McGraw (Seattle: R3 P92), Camden Minacci (Los Angeles A: R6 P174).

Rhett Lowder was the ACC Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive year under Muscara. He posted school records in wins (15) and strikeouts (143). His 15 wins led the nation. He led the ACC in wins (12), strikeouts (108), ERA (1.73), and IP (88.2).

Sean Sullivan also broke out under Muscara, breaking the Wake Forest single-season record for K/9 (14.34).

Without a doubt, Muscara has earned the title of best assistant coach in the nation, and Deacon nation is lucky and grateful that he's returning for another season despite being one of the most highly touted head coaching options.

Congratulations Corey!
